Full disclosure...my husband is the cook in our household and whenever he makes something he doesn't use a recipe so I can't put anything here...but I do know that there is a killer Vegetable Chowder recipe in the old Moosewood cookbook that I used to make when I was more frequently found in the kitchen. I also still make a pretty good chili with ingredients like cocoa powder and cumin and worcestershire sauce and refried beans...among other things. Yum.

I'm not a huge fan of a ton of broth so my soups are more like stews but I've been really into a recreation of a vegan posole that I had at xc ski lodge in Colorado. Also, just bought everything I need for my favorite lentil mushroom soup that is a fall/winter staple.

I enjoy soups that have tons of vegetables, so I tend to make minestrone soup a couple of times during the fall.

I'm a soup lover - I would eat it every day if I could. Love a good clam chowder, chili, pumpkin soup. My favorite to cook is Tortilla Soup. Since mi esposa es Mexicana, I have tried many recipes. Our favorite is actually from Mollie Katezen's Vegetable Heaven, best made with the freshes ears of August corn on the cob that you can get. It is not a traditional tortilla soup, but it is rich and complex. Recipe here: https://www.astray.com/recipes/?show=Tortilla+soup+w%2F+roasted+red+peppers

For those of you who do not know it, this is a great cookbook (may be older than some of you readers!). If you are vegetarian, or cook for them, there are so many great recipes, and it is not very cheap on Amazon. She is one of the Moosewood founders, so there you have it.

For those who refuse to participate in the War on Carbs, I highly recommend this yummy, comforting, and quick Baked Potato Soup from Cooking (Kinda) Light. It's my go-to cold weather soup. https://www.cookinglight.com/recipes/quick-loaded-potato-soup.

Scandinavian salmon soup from one of the Moosewood cookbooks! I have already been thinking about it this past week. Also, it's not exactly a soup, but I feel like fall/winter always invites a need for beef stew in our household. Yummm...

If it’s fall, it must be butternut squash soup. Potato leek is also acceptable.
